Fort Ward Park & picnic areas
The Museum and historic fort are located within a 45-acre park which is operated by the City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities. Picnic areas are available and may be reserved for groups by calling 703-838-4831. There are also numerous shops, food stores, eateries, and restaurants of all types and price-levels nearby.
Parking
Fort Ward Museum has ample parking for cars and buses.
Tours
Self-guided tours of the fort and Museum may be taken any time the Museum and historic site are open. Guided tours are available with advance reservations for a small fee. Accessibility and Special Services
Museum exhibit areas are wheelchair accessible, and handicapped parking is available in the museum lot. For visitors who are unable to tour the historic fort, an interpretive video, Fort Ward and the Defenses of Washington, D.C.: Silent Guardians of the Capital City (closed caption), is shown inside the museum.
Large print, Braille, French and Spanish brochures are available. The Fort Ward video is closed-captioned for the hearing impaired.
