Mara Benner,
President/Founder
Four Directions Wellness, LLC
will talk us through the stress we are all under and offer suggestions for reducing and managing that stress so that we can be be productive in our lives, with our families, and for our businesses.
Mara has always been fascinated by the mind-body-spirit connection and its importance to our health and wholeness. After spending over 30 years in healthcare, Mara realized that her passion was “whole person” care. She founded Four Directions Wellness in 2016 and encourages the adoption of integrative healthcare with individuals and the wider community. Mara is a practitioner with the GW Center for Integrative Medicine, serves on the GW Wellness Committee and writes for the Alexandria Times on wellness initiatives.
Mara has undergone significant training in ancient healing modalities including: Reiki, reflexology, chakras, energy medicine, mind-body techniques, Qigong, meditation and mindfulness among others. Mara also completed a two-year interfaith seminary program and graduated with a degree in gerontology.
Prior to founding Four Directions Wellness, Mara worked in various healthcare settings including hospitals, nursing homes, home health, hospice and elder protective services. Her previous position was working for the CEO of Gentiva Health Services, a national home health and hospice company, as their vice president for government affairs.
Mara has also run both state and national not-for-profit associations focused on home-based healthcare. She also worked on Capitol Hill for Congressman Jim Saxton who served on the House Select Committee on Aging. And through these positions, Mara has advocated for quality care initiatives, patient-driven engagement with their healthcare partners and ultimately “whole person” healthcare.
Her most important role has been as a family caregiver. Through the eyes of the patient and their loved ones, Mara has realized the importance of patient engagement and on treating the entirety of a person, not just their physical symptoms but also their mental, emotional and spiritual.
